What is a trampoline enclosure?

A trampoline safety enclosure (often known as a safety net) is manufactured with polyethylene terephthalate (PET), or polyester for short. Polyester is a lightweight and durable material making it an ideal choice for trampoline manufacturers.

The enclosure gets installed around the mat of an outdoor trampoline (such as a 15’ round or Oval trampoline). The idea of a safety enclosure is to stop children falling off the trampoline, which could of course lead to injury.

Do I need really an enclosure?

Of course the answer lies solely with you, if young children will be using the trampoline then I would 100% recommend purchasing a trampoline with an enclosure or adding an enclosure to your existing outdoor trampoline. If cost is a concern you must ask yourself, how important is child safety, I’m hoping the answer to that question is “it’s very important”.

Even with an enclosure a child is not completely safe, remember the safety enclosure stretches for durability purposes, unfortunately this means if a child fell onto the safety net they could still injure themselves on one of the poles or even the trampoline frame that’s protected by the padding. So if you do consider an enclosure make sure it’s of high quality and has thick foam padding around the poles.

Which trampolines have enclosures?

Not every trampoline brand is manufactured with a safety enclosure, however trampolines with safety enclosures are becoming increasingly popular due to their high demand. From spending a lot of time researching the internet, I found enclosures are generally available for - Kids mini 55 inch, 8’, 10’, 12’, 13’, 14’, 15’ and in some cases 17’ Round and Oval trampolines. I have also seen trampoline enclosures for hexagonal, square and rectangular trampolines.

How do I fit the trampoline enclosure?

Of course I can’t cover all scenarios for every manufacture here, but I will run through the general steps that should be taken to install a safety net onto a trampoline.

  1. The most important step, get a partner who can help you install the enclosure, some trampoline enclosures can be tricky to install and generally require 2 pairs of hands.
  2. After unpacking the safety enclosure begin to install the poles into (or onto) the legs of the trampoline (note: on some models the poles attach to the trampoline frame using clips rather than being inserted into the existing frame), the poles will be padded with foam, this is not part of the packaging so do not throw these away.
  3. Unroll and assemble the safety net, firstly roll the net out on the ground or on the trampoline mat to figure out where you want the door to go, next adjust the knots at the top to the correct measurements, which can be found on the instructions.
  4. Lastly, hang the net by putting the strap around the top of the first pole, once the net is secured to the first pole move clockwise around the trampoline until the net is secured to the top of every pole. Now secure the bottom T-anchors of the net to the V-rings of the trampoline frame.

Of course the above is a list of basic instructions and will differ depending on the brand of trampoline you have. So remember, always follow your manual and if in doubt contact the manufacture for help.

So what is the average price and where can I purchase one

Of course I can’t answer this in one short paragraph, so I decided to create a section that links to trusted online retailers who provide the best safety enclosures at the best US prices.
