What is a trampoline mat / bed

Trampoline Mat (Bed) A trampoline mat (sometimes referred to as a trampoline bed) is the area that you bounce on. The mats are normally made from Permatrom polypropylene which makes it tough yet flexible.

Trampoline mats have galvanized V-rings stitched to them so that you can attach springs from the trampoline outside frame to the matting.

Do I need a replacement mat for my trampoline

Wear and tear will eventually occur on a trampoline, there are only so many bounces you can get out of a trampoline mat before it weakens. If you keep the trampoline outside and don’t use a trampoline cover the mat will be exposed to weathering and UV rays which will shorten the lifespan of the mat.  mat with V-rings

To give you an idea the average trampoline mat should last at least 5 years, if you have a good warranty on your current trampoline that’s a good sign that it may last 10+ years.

Thankfully most suppliers sell replacement mats for outdoor trampolines and if they don’t you can normally buy universal mats, just remember to make note of the following before purchasing a replacement mat:

  • The size of the trampoline mat you need – this may sound obvious but make sure you purchase the right size and shape mat, and also one designed for your brand of trampoline, if there isn’t one available you may have to purchase a universal mat.
  • Make sure it fits the number of springs – some replacement mats are designed for 55, 60, 65, 70 or more springs, if you are unsure then count how many springs you have on your current trampoline.
  • Make sure it fits the spring size – some mats are designed for 6”, 7”, 8” or 9” trampoline spring sizes, measure the size of the current springs if you are unsure.
  • Universal mats / beds – although suppliers say the mat will fit universal trampolines it will not hurt to give them a call and check it will fit your brand and size / type of trampoline.
  • Patch repair kits – if you have a minor tear or weakening on the mat it may be worth considering a patch kit. However a patch kit is similar to a puncture repair kit on a bike, it’s a temporary solution.

How much can I expect to pay

Mats are commonly the second most expensive part of an outdoor trampoline, the size of the mat you purchase will depend on how much you pay. For example a 10ft round trampoline mat expect to pay between £30 up to £50
