What are Trampoline Springs Made From

springs on a trampolineTrampoline springs are made from high density galvanised steel to help protect them from rust. Outdoor trampolines normally have around 50 springs, but this depends on the size and shape of the trampoline.

The springs will range from around 4 – 8 inches in size and often require a spring cover (known as a trampoline spring cover). The cover acts as a shield from weathering of the springs and also keeps users safe helping them avoid injury. if you are looking for a springless trampoline, i suggest looking at a water trampoline which can be purchased or rented (great for a vacation at the lake)

Spring Tension Loads

Each spring will have a set tension load, which will vary from trampoline. Put simply this means if the trampoline allows a maximum user weight of 300kg and there are 50 springs on the trampoline each spring will have a tension load of 6kg before breaking.

Trampoline spring maintenance

Like all things in life we often have to maintain our bodies, cars, houses etc. with trampoline springs you will need to make sure you perform basic maintenance on them.

Maintenance can be simply keeping the springs indoors (or in a warm dry place) during the cold wet winter months, from oiling the springs to help prevent rust and prolong the life of the spring.

Just remember you can only maintain trampoline springs for so long eventually you will have to replace them, just like you would with the trampoline pads, ladders, nets and any other accessory.

Things to consider

Remember the springs will eventually stretch, rust, break or loose tension over time (this could potentially happen quicker if you purchased a cheaper trampoline. Thankfully more and more stores allow you to purchase springs for your trampoline at competitive prices. Just make sure you order the right size / type of spring for your model of trampoline and if unsure speak to a technical or sales person.

Happy springing!
